Open Category

Open Category is a special competition that allows choirs from Bali to participate in an international standard choral festival. Open Category consists of 4 categories:

  1. Elementary School

    Participant are elementary school students
  2. Junior High School

    Participant are junior high school students
  3. Senior High School

    Participant are senior high school students
  4. University & Public

    Participant are university student and public

Solo Singing Competition

Solo Singing Competition consists of 7 categories

  1. Solo Children
    Participant aged 13 years and below
  2. Solo Youth
    Participant aged between 12 and 18 years
  3. Solo Adult
    Participant aged 17 years and above
  4. Solo Classical Music
    Song include Aria, Lieder, Opera, etc. The choosen song must have been composed before 1900
  5. Solo Sacred Music
    Song with a Christian spiritual background, in any genre
  6. Solo Seriosa Indonesia
    Song from Indonesia's art song reportoire
  7. Solo Popular Music
    Songs of various popular genres

Choir Competition consists of 14 categories:

Competition Mechanism

Solo Singing Competition

First Round

  • Each participation in every category has maximum 5 minutes to perform 1 song that counts from first note until the last note is sounded. If the total duration exceeds the allotted time, the total score will be reduced by a penalty of 1 (one) point for every minute that passes.
  • The final score is the total of the average scores of each judge which determined by following criteria:
    1. Intonation
    2. Sound Quality
    3. Interpretation
    4. Overall Artistic Performance
  • This round uses a total score system of 40 with the final value grouping as follows:
  • Medal Score
    Successful Participation 1,00 - 9,99
    Bronze Medal 10,00 - 19,99
    Silver Medal 20,00 - 29,99
    Gold Medal 30,00 - 40,00
  • Participants who receive a Gold Medal with the highest score in each category will be awarded the Solo Winner of Category and will automatically qualify to compete again in the Grand Prix of Solo Competition round

Grand Prix Round

  • Participants of the Grand Prix of Solo Competition consist of all Solo Winners of Category and those recommended by the Artistic Director and the Jury.
  • Participants who receive more than one Solo Winner of Category title will only perform once.
  • Participants are required to perform a new song in the Grand Prix round.
  • Each participation has maximum 5 minutes to perform that counts from first note until the last note is sounded.
  • The Grand Prix winner will receive a certificate and the Grand Prix Solo Winner of the 15th Bali International Choir Festival 2026 trophy.

Choir Competition

First Round

  • Each participation in every category has maximum 10 minutes to perform 2 songs that counts from first note until the last note is sounded. If the total duration exceeds the allotted time, the total score will be reduced by a penalty of 1 (one) point for every minute that passes.
  • The final score is the total of the average scores of each judge which determined by following criteria:
    1. Intonation
    2. Sound Quality
    3. Fidelity to the Score
    4. Overall Artistic
  • This round uses a total score system of 40 with the final value grouping as follows:
  • Medal Score
    Successful Participation 1,00 - 9,99
    Bronze Medal 10,00 - 19,99
    Silver Medal 20,00 - 29,99
    Gold Medal 30,00 - 40,00
  • The gold medal with the highest score will be announce as the “Winner of Category”.

Choir Championship Qualification

  • Participants who achieve a minimum score of 33,00 (Gold Lv-4) are qualified to advance to the Choir Championship round, according to the rules of the category they are competing in.
  • Choirs that do not wish to proceed to the Choir Championship round must submit an official letter stating that they “Cannot / Will not perform” signed by the choir leader or conductor.

Choir Championship

  • The Choir Championship is intended for experienced choirs that have achieved recognition in other international festivals by earning a gold medal with a minimum final score of 84,00, or have qualified for the Choir Championship round in a previous Bali International Choir Festival, in accordance with the category they are competing in.
  • Each participation in every category has maximum 10 minutes to perform 2 songs that counts from first note until the last note is sounded. If the total duration exceeds the allotted time, the total score will be reduced by a penalty of 1 (one) point for every minute that passes.
  • This round uses a total score system of 100 with the final value grouping as follows:
  • Medal Score
    Successful Participation 1,00 - 39,99
    Bronze Medal 40,00 - 59,99
    Silver Medal 60,00 - 79,99
    Gold Medal 80,00 - 100,00
  • Participants who achieve a Gold Medal with the highest score in each category will receive the “Champion of Category”
  • Grand Prix participants are the “Champion of Category” with a minimum score 85,00.

Grand Prix Round

  • Participants who qualify for the Grand Prix round are all Champions of Category with a minimum score 85,00 and/or participants who receive a recommendation from the Artistic Director and the Juries.
  • Participants who achieve more than 1 (one) Champion of Category title will perform once by presenting their 2 (two) best songs (in accordance with the applicable song program regulations for the Grand Prix round), with a maximum performance duration of 10 (ten) minutes.
  • Participants are fully responsible for the copyright of the songs performed in this round. Those who fail to meet this requirement will be considered to have withdrawn from the Grand Prix round.
  • Each participation has maximum 10 minutes to perform that counts from first note until the last note is sounded.
  • The Grand Prix winner will receive a Certificate and Trophy titled “Grand Prix Champion of the 15th Bali International Choir Festival 2026” and will represent the festival at the 6 th Asia Choral Grand Prix in Manila, Philippines 2027.

Choral Workshop

26 - 29 July 2026

This educational activity is open to the public. Participants will gain enrichment in choral knowledge and technical skills, while also actively engaging in hands-on practice and training with a Choral Expert. For certificate requests, please contact the Bandung Choral Society administrator

Choral Masterclass

26-29 July 2026

In this activity, participants are given an exclusive opportunity to deepen their understanding of theory and engage in hands-on practice with a Choral Expert to enhance the artistic quality and performance of their choir.

Choral Exchange & Collaboration

27-29 July 2026

This activity is open to all participants of the 15th Bali International Choir Festival 2026. Choir participants will be given the opportunity to collaborate with other choirs to learn from each other about culture, language, and even dance, while gaining experience performing together.

Meet the Jury

30 July 2026

This activity is an opportunity for all participants to receive direct evaluations from the juries based on their competition performances. Each participant will be given 5 (five) minutes and is allowed to send 5 (five) representatives from their choir.

Non-Competition

27-28 July 2026

Specifically intended for choirs that wish to perform but do not want to compete. Participants will perform in front of the jury but will not be scored; instead, they will receive feedback on their performance. Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Participation and may also take part in the Meet the Jury session.
